CERN Quantum Technology Initiative (QTI)

QTI is a comprehensive R&D and collaboration programme exploring how quantum technologies could impact the Organisation’s research programme and, more broadly, the High-Energy Physics (HEP) community. QTI is strongly engaged in understanding how the broad range of technologies developed at CERN can contribute to research in the area of quantum technologies,  namely sensing, networks and communication and computing.

Four Centres of Competence (CoC) provide a five years plan for capacity and technology development and work towards a 10-year vision for quantum technologies at CERN. The Centres of Competence provide a mechanism to describe and achieve concrete objectives and results and provide the necessary resources:

Upcoming Events

The International Conference on Quantum Technology for High-Energy Physics (QT4HEP 2026) will take place at CERN from 23–27 November 2026.

Building on the strong momentum and success of QT4HEP 2022 and QT4HEP 2025, this third edition of the conference returns in the inspiring setting of the CERN Campus. QT4HEP 2026 will continue to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of quantum technologies and examine their current and future impact on fundamental and high-energy physics.
